If you’ve ever doubted yourself, walk deep into any forest. Notice how the trees still stand even though they are given no recognition. Walk along any stream. The water still flows, though no one stops to praise it. Watch the stars late at night; they shine without acknowledgment. Humans are just the same. We are made out of the same elements as these beautiful wonders. Always remember your beauty and self worth.
I firmly believe in small gestures: pay for their coffee, hold the door for strangers, over tip, smile or try to be kind even when you don’t feel like it, pay compliments, chase the kid’s runaway ball down the sidewalk and throw it back to him, try to be larger than you are— particularly when it’s difficult. People do notice, people appreciate. I appreciate it when it’s done to (for) me. Small gestures can be an effort, or actually go against our grain (“I’m not a big one for paying compliments…”), but the irony is that almost every time you make them, you feel better about yourself. For a moment life suddenly feels lighter, a bit more Gene Kelly dancing in the rain.

I’m most excited to officially announce the Happiness Heals Project!
Happiness Heals is the final capstone for my Consciousness and Transformation minor, integrating photography with neuroscience research to discover what brings ordinary people constant joy at the end of the day. My hope is to photograph and interview at least 30 people doing whatever gives them peace, hope, or happiness. The photographs, along with research focusing on how positive practices can alter the neuroplasticity of the brain, will be posted to the blog: http://happinesshealsproject.tumblr.com/
